What I tried, what worked, and the supplements and oils that made a real difference. Watch my story here for the full timeline.
If you've been shedding more than usual, blaming it on stress, blaming it on postpartum, blaming it on hormones, blaming it on age — same. I went through a stretch where my brush looked alarming every morning. Here's the actual stack that turned it around for me.
Step one: scalp oils.
Cheap, mechanical, easy. Don't underestimate.

Life & Pursuits Amla Brahmi Hair Oil
The overnight scalp oil. I apply to my whole scalp before bed, put a towel on my pillow, and wash out the next day. The more often you apply, the better.
Mielle Rosemary Oil — the one that went viral on TikTok for a reason. I do this one about an hour before washing, scalp and ends.
Step two: filter your shower water.
This is the unexpected hero. Hard water and chlorinated water break hair and strip the scalp. A shower filter changes the literal water touching your head every day.

Filter Baby Shower Filter
I've seen genuine results in my skin and my hair since switching. Easier breath in the shower too. Probably the cheapest "investment" on this list.
Step three: feed the follicle from inside.
Topical can only do so much. Hair grows from a healthy body. The internal stack:
- Cymbiotika Glutathione — master antioxidant, code ANEESAFREEDMAN
- Just Thrive Probiotic — gut health = hair health, code ANEESA
- Adequate protein. Real food. (No supplement saves a bad diet.)
"Hair loss is almost never about hair. It's about stress, hormones, gut, and what's touching your scalp every day. Address the root, not the strand."
Bonus: the sink filter too.
If you're washing your face with chlorinated water, you're stripping the same skin under your hairline. I added the Filter Baby bathroom sink filter and noticed the difference in my skin within two weeks. The sink + shower bundle is the best value.
The bottom line.
You don't need Rogaine. You need filtered water, weekly scalp oil, gut-supporting supplements, and a clean shampoo. Give it six weeks. New growth at the hairline is the first thing you'll notice.
Pair this with my Nontoxic Haircare post for the products to use on top.
